Test with Your PDF

What the AI does with each part of the PDF

Before you upload the handout, it helps to know what comes out ready and what still needs a look.

Body text
The easy case. The AI pulls the concepts out of the paragraph and writes questions about them, keeping the vocabulary of the source.
Exercise list
If the PDF already has questions, the AI reuses that structure and rewrites it in Google Forms format, with the options split out.
Table
The data is read as text. Questions about a specific value work well. The ones that need you to cross a row with a column come out wrong now and then.
Images and charts
Visual content does not make it into the test. If the chart is essential, describe it in the chat or drop the image into Google Forms afterwards.
Formulas
A simple formula written as text goes through. Math notation inside an image, or LaTeX already rendered, tends to get lost on the way.

Applies to PDF, DOCX, and TXT. File input is available from the Pro plan up.

Where it stumbles

Three situations where the result comes out worse than you expected, and what to do about each.

A scanned PDF with no OCR

If the file is a photo of the page, there is no text to read and the AI has nothing to work from. Run the PDF through OCR first, or copy the passage and paste it into the chat.

The whole textbook at once

A 200-page PDF dilutes the focus: questions come out generic and scattered across the entire book. Send the chapter you are actually testing.

What only got said in class

Whatever you explained at the board and never wrote into the PDF will not show up in the test. Fill it in through the chat by naming what else needs covering.

How to ask for a better test

The PDF sets the subject. Your request sets everything else. Three adjustments that change the result a lot.

Name the grade and the level

The same photosynthesis chapter yields different questions for a sixth grader and a high school senior. Without that, the AI picks a middle ground that serves neither well.

Write 10 questions on this chapter for 7th grade, medium difficulty.

Ask for the format you will grade

Multiple choice grades itself in Google Forms. Open answers do not. State the mix you want up front instead of swapping it all later.

8 multiple choice with 4 options, plus 2 short open answers.

Point at what cannot be missing

If one concept is the heart of the lesson, name it. With no focus given, the AI spreads questions evenly across the whole document.

Make sure at least 3 questions cover the Nernst equation.
